Rafting Main Salmon River, Idaho
Wilderness Whitewater
Rafting Adventures in Idaho
The 81 mile long Main Salmon through
the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness has been called one of Idaho's
classic river trips. It slices its way through the towering granite spires of
the Idaho Batholith and shares the same incredible scenery as the Middle Fork
of the Salmon. The Main boasts some of the best camping on the length of the
Salmon River with a mix of white sand beaches and forested flats covered with
Ponderosa pine trees. Combine this with class II-IV whitewater, abundant
wildlife, one of Idaho's best hot springs, a canyon rich in history; and you
get an unforgettable river vacation. The Main Salmon is truly the perfect blend
of all these elements, and even in years when other rivers are too low to run,
the Main always has plenty of water to float our boats. The Main Salmon is
truly the perfect blend of all these elements.
Main Salmon Raft Trip

in Salmon the night prior to departure, ground shuttle from the Stagecoach Inn

jackets for early season trips. We carry a wonderful river library, beach games
and fishing equipment upon request for enjoying camp time or simply unplug,
unwind, and experience the ultimate in relaxation by sitting in a chair and
watching the river roll by.
Food on the River Meals are
a big part of our river trips; we carry a complete outdoor kitchen including
everything we need to cook and everything you need to enjoy our unique menu.
Our meals consist of a wide variety of flavors and dishes including grilled
steak, BBQ chicken, and lime cilantro halibut to sizzling fajitas and our
famous Dutch-oven lasagna. Each dinner is served with a delicious appetizer,
fresh salad, cooked veggies or other side dish, as well as warm breads and
Dutch-oven desserts. Breakfasts range from light and simple to hearty and
complex so you never get hungry before lunch. Our lunches include a deli style
sandwich bar, fresh curry style chicken salad, our famous chopped Italian
salad, and smoked salmon on bagels. We provide a moderate amount of beer and
wine with meals and in camp. We also provide cold beverages and plenty of cold
water and drink mixes throughout the trip as well as a variety of snacks
readily available throughout the day. We are more than happy to customize our
menu to suit your appetite, your health concerns, a special occasion, or a
child's picky appetite and specialize in vegetarian alternatives.
Ages, Abilities and Group
Size Our Main Salmon trip is well suited to any age and all abilities.
We can host participants who are in reasonably good shape from 6 years old and
up. Our river trips allow you to participate in any way that you choose. Our
rafts can be set up for paddle teams who want to share in the excitement or as
oar boats for those who would rather sit quietly and enjoy the scenery. Our oar
boats are also great for younger children or apprehensive rafters. We also have
inflatable kayaks for 1 or 2 paddlers. If you are a hard shell kayaker you can
bring your own kayak or rent one locally; we can help find rental kayaks prior
to your arrival in Idaho. Hard shell kayakers should provide there own paddle,
dry top/dry suit or splash gear, helmet and a Coast Guard approved PFD.
Kayakers should also have a good river roll and prior class 3 whitewater
experience.
We are required by the Forest Service
to keep our trip size at no more than 24 guests plus guides with our average
trip size around 12 plus guides. We are always willing to charter an open
launch date for a group with a minimum of 10 passengers. See our launch dates
and trip pricing table at the bottom of this page for details on our trips,
specialty trips and pricing for each of our trips. Our launch dates between
June 20 and September 7 are issued by the Forest Service and do not change from
year to year. We can start a trip at any time outside of these dates.

Its very hard to have to even think of leaving the
river after such a great six days. The trip started with the scenic flight into
Salmon, ID where we were met by your friendly staff and then things got even
better; the scenery, the river, the camps, the great guides, the knowledge, the
history and the friendship. Each day was so much fun with great meals and
opportunities for different levels of activitiy throughout the day. We really
enjoyed the variety of boats from trying to produce carnage in the duckies,
taking a turn at the oars in the rapids, to just sitting and enjoying the day
from the front of the raft. Words can not explain what was done for us, or the
memories, or the feelings from this trip. We will return with you again on the
River of No Return
